Summer Star
Party
This year's Saskatchewan Summer Star Party (SSSP 2008) promises to a another fabulous time! There were over 260 people in attendance from across Canada and the northern United States last year. It's the magnitude 6.8 skies, the deluxe accommodations, and wonderful presentations that continue to bring back amateur astronomers year after year. The SSSP 2008 Father Lucien Kemble guest speaker will be Alan Whitman from the RASC Okanagan Centre. His talk is titled "Dark Site Observing with the Unaided Eye". More information is available at the SSSP web link below. The Park is on an elevated plateau, which includes the highest points in Canada between Labrador and the Rockies (higher than Banff). The location offers amazingly clear skies *free* of light pollution in a secured area (blocked off for SSSP and light controlled). It is also nearly mosquito free, thus affording the maximum comfort and clarity for observers. The park also boasts no nocturnal predators for campers within the park. This annual event is not just for the seasoned observer but for anyone that has an interest in the night skies. It's a great opportunity to meet with astronomy hobbyists high on the hills at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park. Make your reservations early as many have already made bookings for the 2008 and 2009 star parties.
